THANKS to kind-hearted members of the weekly upholstery group which meets at Thornton-le-Street village hall, Ova The Rainbow gynaecological cancer support group has received a welcome donation of £500 from the sale of the group’s book ‘Sweet Treats’.
The money will be used to support the group which helps patients and their carers at the Friarage Hospital and The James Cook University Hospital providing extra comforts, holistic therapies and equipment for their benefit.
Linda Boden a member of the Northallerton branch of Ova the Rainbow came up with the innovative idea of the recipe book to help with fundraising, suggesting Ova the Rainbow should benefit and the upholstery group were delighted to help.
Members bring tasty treats to their weekly meetings and enjoy chatting about the different recipes, many which have been passed down through the generations.
‘Sweet Treats’ created by the ladies from the group features their recipes and contains everything from a banana fudge loaf, to cranberry bread to frangipane mince pies, to carrot cake.
Copies of the book are still available at £5. Contact Linda Boden on 01609 774605 or email linda.boden@homecall.co.uk if you would like a copy.
Linda said: “The group were delighted to help such a good cause which benefits not only patients at our local Friarage Hospital but all ladies who are dealing with a gynaecological cancer diagnosis.
“We hope people who buy the book enjoy the recipes as much as we have enjoyed sampling them. “
