ELSIE Cornforth celebrated a special milestone – her 85th birthday – with her closest family and friends at The Village Inn, Brompton recently.
They came from far and wide across the UK to celebrate with Elsie from Northallerton and join in her birthday celebrations.
Kind-hearted Elsie asked for donations in lieu of birthday presents and thanks to everyone’s generosity the renal research and education fund at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital MRI scanner appeal received a fantastic £450 between them.
Elsie whose motto is ‘to laugh every day’ was keen to support both good causes in memory of husband Brian, who was cared for on James Cook’s renal unit and son Ian, who had cancer and was cared for at the Friarage.
She said: “I really enjoyed myself and we all had a wonderful day. I wanted to thank the dedicated hospital staff who cared for my husband and son as a tribute in their memory. It was lovely to see everyone and also to know my birthday celebrations would benefit future patients at the hospitals at the same time.”
Suzi Campbell, from South Tees Hospital Charity said : “We would like to say a big thank you to Elise and all her family and friends for their support. We hope she had a very happy birthday and enjoyed the celebrations and we much appreciate her giving up her birthday treats to help us.”
