Further details have been announced for traffic arrangements during renovation and remedial work on the historic Thornton Bridge over the River Swale between Brafferton and Cundall.
The first phase of the work was completed in April, three weeks ahead of schedule. Progress was then interrupted on the instructions of the Environment Agency, following the discovery of a protected fish spawning site beneath the bridge.
The work will recommence on 15 June, when the fish spawning season is over. During the second phase of the work – for which ten weeks has been allowed, but which it is hoped will be completed in a shorter period – weight restrictions will be in place. Vehicles over three tonnes will only be permitted to use the bridge between 5pm and 8am on weekdays. There will be no restrictions at weekends.
